Many people think their daily work processes are impossible to automate because they involve too much human input. In some cases this is true, but we are in a new era of technology where AI has the ability to automate all types of workflows. Often the human involvement we think we need to work with is down to unorganized, or unstructured data at some point in the process.

Unstructured data accounts for about 80% of data generated by the average business – emails, audio files, video, and all kinds of documents and images.

In the past, as companies grew, they would end up spending more time and money to take care of an increasing amount of these types of data. But why waste your time with repetitive tasks when we now have technology that can do this for you?

Sounds interesting? Levity is an AI tool that automates processes that use unstructured data such as email attachments, survey responses, fashion images and more. The best part? No coding or tech knowledge is needed.

What is Unstructured Data Processing ?

Unstructured Data Processing (UDP) deals with data that does not have a predetermined data model. Think images, long text, and videos - data that does not follow a set format such as DD/MM/YYYY.

What is unstructured data?

Unstructured data is unorganized. It doesn’t follow a strict format or follow any specific rules. The lack of structure means it is harder to search, manage and analyze.

For example, sender and recipient email addresses are structured forms of data, they follow the same format each time. But the body content of an email is free-form text and is unstructured.

Challenges of unstructured data

Working with unstructured data is not an easy task because of two major reasons:

  1. Unstructured data can’t be used with many of the data tools businesses work with, such as Excel.
  2. Traditional rule-based automation solutions cannot process unstructured data.
Conventional approaches to automation fail when unstructured data is involved

How AI processes unstructured data

AI, and more specifically Deep Learning which is a subset of AI, allows unorganized, unstructured data to be processed in a similar way to structured data. And because it can be processed, we can automate it too!

How Deep Learning processes unstructured data

Deep Learning acts as the brain in this process. It takes in data in its unstructured format, analyzes it using different technologies such as Computer Vision (CV) and Natural Language Processing (NLP), and then converts it to a structured format which can be automated in the next stage in the process.

Deep Learning closes the gap and allows the automation of processes involving unstructured data, like emails, customer feedback, and much more.

End-to-end workflow automation

Businesses who use AI automation tools, like Levity, significantly reduce the manual workload of their teams. Not only do these tools process unstructured data which previously had to be managed manually, they connect to their existing tools and automate entire workflows.

Still feeling unsure about surrendering your daily, repetitive tasks to automation? If human input is needed, you can set up trigger actions to alert certain teams when you deem necessary. If you want the Sales team to be alerted when a high scoring lead shows interest in your product - you can set up an action so they are alerted immediately through Slack, Gmail, Outlook - wherever you want to alert them. The workflows are completely customizable to your needs.

How to implement AI automation

Possibilities to automate processes with AI exist for all types of businesses, whether you are a small locally-owned clothes retailer or a large tech enterprise. So how do you decide what route to take to implement AI in your business?

1. Self-service tools

If you fall into the SME category, a self-service no-code tool like Levity is your best bet. These types of tools are built with small to medium size businesses in mind and require no technical expertise to implement - meaning no extra costs are spent on hiring a tech team or contractors.

The process is simple, train the tool’s AI on your own data, or use a pre-made template. Customize the process by assigning the labels you want to use for your data, and then connect to your existing tools. Simple! Your automation is in action.

2. In-house AI experts

The "traditional" approach is to create a solution using in-house engineers. If you are a large business with a deep tech department, your team can probably handle intelligent automation- but you might need to hire additional developers or shift resources from your core tech activities. If you don't have these capabilities yet, finding the right people can be expensive and time-consuming.

What are you waiting for?

If data is the new oil, then AI and Deep Learning tools are the way to extract true value from it. Choosing a tool that suits your business is the first step towards taking advantage of its benefits.

There is still time to get ahead of the game and begin AI automation in your business. Why spend dozens of hours a week on repetitive, mundane and tedious tasks like routing emails to the right team or tagging inventory images, when tools like Levity can do this for you?
